The Douglas Houghton Falls ( Tallest Falls in the U. P.)

One of the tallest and most dangerous falls in the U.P. are the Douglas Houghton Falls.  Recently opened to the public (private land for years) is one of the most spectacular falls in the U. P.. The State of Michigan now owns it and is planning to put up guard rails and generally make it safe for tourist.

If you look carefully, you can see a mine shaft going under the falls.  It goes in about 60 feet; it was abandoned after producing nothing. You can enter the mine shaft with a flashlight just watch for low ceiling.  This fall is not too far from my house as it is located off of m26 on the way to Lake Linden.
