Quincy Dredge

This unusual piece of equipment has been sitting here in Mason MI,, half sunk for over 50 years.  It is a type of barge that was used to suck up stamp sand, that was deposited in Torch Lake.   At one time there use to be two of them but one sunk, Its lying in about 160 feet of water.(They found away to get more copper out of stamp sand)  There is no shortage of stamp sand in the Keweenaw, there is tons of it laying almost everywhere. Stamp sand is rock that has been grounded to get the copper out.  Below #3:  This is all that is left of a plant that used to re- process the discard stamp sand that the Quincy Barge sucked up.( reclamation plant)  Picture #2: Stamp Sand. One mile wide, 5 miles long on lake Superior, Gay MI..
